Volume 3: Dreams

Volume 3: Dreams contains 37 contributions by Echolalia members, all of which can be found in our physical journal. Pieces range from poetry to prose to photgraphy, and can also be viewed online in our publications tab.

Similar to our previous topics of Perspective and Reminiscence, the topic of “dreams” can be a deeply personal one, something that can be highly advantageous in the realm of creative work. Through writing, whether it is about our own experiences or ones that are more removed, we learn more about each other and ourselves. This connection is one that Echolalia aspires to cultivate and strengthen through our creation process, and we find that the accessibility and diversity of our themes greatly help this goal: thus, Dreams.

For our 2024-2025 cycle, we invited writers and other creative minds to explore different aspects of dreams, including:

• Personal hopes for the future
• Poetic retellings of dreams or nightmares
• Examination of how life dreams change with age
• Ideals that exist within cultural contexts
• Wishes that persist across time
• How personal dreams can lead to conflict
• Fictional tales about dreams coming to life
• Visual interpretations of daydreams

To bring a dream to life through creative form is to preserve what resonates: to wish for its existence in reality, or to repel it for reasons known or unknown. It is said that every face you chance upon in the veil of your dreams belongs to specific people you’ve met in real life, if only in passing. Our subconsciousness works to bring reality into our dreams, and our contributors delivered. We at Echolalia hope you enjoy exploring the creative ways contributors approached this year’s theme, as we highlight talented creatives here at UCI who have become a part of our community.
