life flows past like waves

Poetry by Jessica Lee

meeting my loves is like we never parted,

but leaving them is like they never existed

just a wonderful dream i spun from cold ocean water and musty thrifting bins,

Like roses for your mother, tucked in brown paper.

Did you know I love them?

How could such wonderful beings exist?

full of passion, of laughter

of annoyance, of love.

Tears from long talks,

season the savory sweet cheek kisses,

the still warm mac n cheese heating on the hearth

These cold tears keep me warm and full

Surrounding the space between us all

smiles pull and fight for room on my face,

jostling, till pain of too much joy urges me to stop, be stoic…

i cannot…

Now I am back to reality,

to a different type of early morning and steady stream of worries.

just out of focus, I return to our home near the sea.

the longing tugging at my consciousness,

telling me to blink, to sprint back to my loves…

the warmth and happiness oh so sweet.

i look up, looking for their faces and for their sounds,

instead i see white walls and my blank computer screen,

peering at me.

i should feel lonely, perhaps melancholy?

For I am here, and they are there… you are there

But my trinket, my treasure,

You rest on the cabinet in my heart
